Gran Turismo 4 on a direct drive wheel, and Jimmy Broadbent is still going
The week's single upload picks up a 2004 PlayStation 2 classic again, and its comment section has its own hydration rule: drink every time Jimmy changes his oil.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Still Trying To Beat Gran Turismo 4 With A Direct Drive Wheel
One upload, an old game. Jimmy Broadbent spent his week back inside Gran Turismo 4, Polyphony Digital's 2004 PlayStation 2 epic, playing it on a modern direct drive wheel. The title says "still," and it means it: this is a long campaign through a game famous for its huge car list and its very patient career mode. It drew close to 89,000 views in its first day.
The comments read like a regular crowd settling in for the long haul. One viewer has turned his oil changes into a drinking game, with water, another counts the hours as steps "closer to the void," and a few wonder aloud whether GT4 is simply the whole channel now. There are requests too, from a randomizer version of the game to the very first Gran Turismo. Someone also cheers the arrival of the Nissan R92CP, the Group C endurance car.
The video with the most momentum is not the new one. "We Need To Talk About Sim Racing Driving Standards," from two weeks ago, has passed 400,000 views and still draws the most each day. Its description jokes that Jimmy didn't need his brain cells anyway. A month-old puzzle about a sim he can't quite figure out, though it apparently feels pretty decent, sits right beside it.
The channel is moving slower than usual right now, closer to half its normal daily pace. That is common among the sports and racing game channels near its size this week: most of them are below their usual pace, and only EA SPORTS FC Pro is running ahead of it. ASP FC and AuzioMF carry by far the biggest numbers in the group. Jimmy sits in the middle, fifth for views gained, as GT4 rolls on.
