A balaclava can hide a face. It cannot hide Nick Young's stance or his laugh, and in Jesser's "5 Real NBA Players vs. 1 Fake NBA Player," contestant number two is barely through his introduction before the panel starts grinning.
The rules run backward on purpose. Six masked men in colored balaclavas and goggles all claim NBA careers, and the panel must vote out the genuine players one by one. "Our job is to vote off all of the NBA players and leave only the imposter," Jesser explains. Helping him is Trae Young, billed on screen as a four-time All-Star, alongside Jesser's regulars Chris, Zack and Janny.
The game is a format the channel knows well. Its most watched regular video is still "Guess The Secret NBA Player ft. Giannis Antetokounmpo," and this new version drew about 840,000 views since yesterday, with likes coming in at twice the pace of a usual first day.
Nick Young makes the opening round easy. He swishes a long jumper, which only confirms what everyone already suspected, and the panel votes him off unanimously. "I came all the way over here for this?" he asks on his way out. His quick exit is the moment many viewers bring up, and several say they recognized him before the intro was over.
After that the questions get harder: draft nights, old matchups, pregame routines, a career-high game, a college town. Jesser offers $200 for a dunk over Zack and gets a two-handed one. Chris lines up his 6-foot-10 frame beside the final three to check their listed heights. When the masks finally come off, one of the real players turns out to be Tyus Edney, the guard whose coast-to-coast shot against Missouri kept UCLA on its way to the 1995 national title.
The video also includes a paid segment for DraftKings.
