Sam Fricker's dryland dive trades a splash for a standing landing
A flip-and-twist training clip draws an unusually large audience, with viewers focusing on the foam landing.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 132,598 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (9,772).
Sam Fricker diving
No water this time. Sam Fricker launches from a springboard, flips and twists through the air, then lands upright on blue safety mats.
The Short, titled "Sam Fricker diving", drew an estimated 133,000 views in its first day, more than thirteen times his usual start for the format. It offers a different finish from the pool dives: feet onto padding rather than a head-first entry into water.
Fricker begins barefoot on the dryland board, takes his approach steps and springs upward. Diving Victoria branding appears on the equipment behind him. There is no spoken explanation, just music accompanying the movement, before he turns towards the camera after landing.
Another Short, "Sam Fricker Gold Medal", also drew a faster-than-usual first-day audience. But the dryland clip attracted the larger start, along with a comment section nearly five times busier than usual.
Viewers pick out his control in the air, while the landing gives some a more bodily response: watching him hit the foam has them thinking about their own knees.
