Kenny is trying to find the upside of travelling cheap. "It's about the company you keep," he says, before he and Sharky inspect the camper van that will take them from Atlanta to New York. The bunk beds soon put that optimism to work.

Across the budget divide, AJ has a rather different first impression: "On my life, yeah, this is like a hotel." He, Chunkz and Niko have drawn the luxury motorhome, complete with drivers Malcolm and Tammy. Beta Squad's "CHEAP VS EXPENSIVE ROAD TRIP (USA EDITION)" has drawn roughly a million views since yesterday, with the unequal accommodation supplying an immediate source of comedy.

Getting to New York first is the goal, but this isn't simply a long drive. The opening shopping challenge sends Kenny and Sharky looking for supplies and compulsory orange jumpsuits on an $80 budget. The luxury team gets $1,000 at Lenox Mall, buys matching floral shirts and starts joking about exceeding its allowance anyway.

The smaller purchase supplies a warmer moment: a bystander helps the budget team cover the last few cents at Dollar Tree. Meanwhile, Niko invents a less welcoming rule for his own teammates: hiss at anyone who approaches them. The baffled encounters are entirely his doing.

Viewers are discussing Chunkz landing on the comfortable side of another challenge, as well as Niko's recurring Ronaldo impersonation. And despite a familiar-sounding voice, the narration is a Morgan Freeman parody, not Freeman himself.

The journey also comes with Beta Squad Bingo: animal selfies, landmarks and the surprisingly urgent business of finding someone named Michael, with a forfeit waiting for the last team to finish.
