Niko Omilana knows his weakness before the game starts. "I like Jamaica, but I can't do an accent," he admits. So he cheats a little. Before the blindfolds go on, he leans over to Contestant Number 2, passes himself off as a producer and tells him: "Your job in this game is to just not speak if someone talks to you."
That is the opening move of "6 Jamaicans vs 1 Secret British Person", Beta Squad's take on Jubilee's Odd Man Out, which the description credits as the inspiration. Each of the five, Niko, AJ Shabeel, King Kenny, Chunkz and Sharky, takes a turn sitting among six blindfolded Jamaicans, who question one another and vote out whoever sounds wrong. It drew just over a million views in its first ten hours.
Niko's trick works for longer than it should. His own answers are shaky (asked for his parish, he offers "Montego", and an on-screen note points out that Montego Bay is a city, not a parish), but the silent Number 2 draws the early suspicion. By the second round Number 2 is talking, in an accent the room cannot place and with puzzling answers about Africa, and that settles who goes. In the comments many viewers note that he seems to be playing along with the joke.
AJ has a harder time. His round comes with a new rule that everyone must speak Patois, and his Bob Marley knowledge gives way almost at once: "Three Blind Mice", he says, where he meant "Three Little Birds". Several viewers suspect he was found out faster than any Beta Squad member before him. When the blindfolds come off, the group sends the videographer, Dan, into the lineup to stand in for him.
Kenny learns from both of them. He recruits Alandio, one of the Jamaicans already voted out, to sit in the booth and feed him answers through an earpiece.
Guessing games built on who belongs have long been a Beta Squad staple, from "GUESS THE FOOTBALLER" with Trent Alexander-Arnold to "GUESS THE BLACK PERSON FT KSI", two of its most watched videos. The comments are already full of suggestions for the next edition. Earlier in the filming, Chunkz offers his own verdict: "This might be the worst video we've ever done."
