Car TV puts YouTube on a CarPlay screen for HotshotTek

The three-day-old test of a new App Store app streams YouTube, Tubi and Paramount+ on a car's factory display, no jailbreak needed.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Three days old and already past 90,000 views, "You're Wasting CarPlay If You Haven't Downloaded This YouTube App" is the video doing most of the work on HotshotTek this week. The app in question is Car TV, a new arrival on the App Store that puts a web browser and video streaming on a car's own head unit. The video walks through YouTube, Tubi and Paramount+, how to get full-screen playback, and a drive test to see whether CarPlay cuts the picture once the car moves.

The comment section reads like a support desk. Several viewers point out that the free version stops after 40 minutes of browsing and ask whether the paid tier is worth it. Others warn that an upcoming iOS 27 release may switch the trick off. Some compare it with APTV, the app he showed off at the start of the week in his iOS 27 hidden-features roundup, and a few just want to know how he likes his wireless CarPlay dongle.

It was a six-upload week in all, and Apple gear ran through most of it: ten Apple Watch tricks, a look at iOS 27 Beta 3, and an Apple TV guide posted only hours ago that is already moving quickly. The odd one out is a tour of the 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness, from its 800-pound roof rails to a tailgate PIN code.

The channel as a whole is running a little below its usual pace, with about a thousand new subscribers on the week. Even so, among similar gadget channels only Andrew Bond added more views over the week, while Katie Steckly and GregsGadgets had quieter stretches.
