Heatless curls overnight: Grace May's 'I woke up like this' passes a million

A short about sleeping in curlers and waking to a blowout became the most talked-about clip on a channel usually busy with acne tips and skincare.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,433,543 views a day, 103 times a normal first day on this channel (13,909).

I woke up like this 🙄 #overnight #blowout #heatlesscurlsI woke up like this 🙄 #overnight #blowout #heatlesscurls

A new short from Grace May usually starts its first day somewhere around fourteen thousand views. Her latest, "I woke up like this 🙄 #overnight #blowout #heatlesscurls", went past a million in its first day and kept going to roughly one and a half million.

The idea is simple, and that may be the appeal. Going by the hashtags, the curlers go in at night, no heat involved, and they come out in the morning as a bouncy blowout. The title borrows the wink of a line Beyoncé made famous, paired with an eye-roll emoji.

It is a change of subject for the channel. The days around it brought a short on three things she refuses to skip for acne, a makeup transition, a mango mochi craving and a new set of fall nails. Acne is a running theme in her uploads, and a few viewers here mention her clearer skin.

Most of the talk is about hair. The question asked again and again is which oil she put on after taking the curlers out. Underneath, a friendly split has opened up: people with natural curls say they feel lucky to wake up like that every day, while others admit they have those curls and spend their mornings straightening them. Several straight-haired viewers say this is the trick they have been meaning to try.

The comments came in at more than four times the pace of her usual first day, and likes ran about twenty times their normal start.
