A 1915 bylaw and a broken lift under the Thames for Evan Edinger

His one new video goes down into the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, where cycling is banned, everyone does it anyway, and the comments pick up Evan's 'in the mean time' in Greenwich.

What happens when a tunnel's rules are older than almost everyone using it? Evan Edinger went down to find out. His one upload, "London's Busiest Foot Tunnel Has A Law No One Can Fix," takes him under the Thames through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, the Victorian passage between Greenwich and the Isle of Dogs that opened in 1902. The description sets the tone: everyone breaks the law down there, so he joined in.

The law in question is a no-cycling rule, and the video, per its tags, also gets into the lifts. Viewers took the subject to heart. The most liked comments swap engineering wisdom about how nothing lasts like a temporary fix, offer a diagnosis of the stuck lift door, and wonder why a cramped Victorian tube still carries so much of the city's traffic. Others point to roomier cousins abroad, Hamburg's Elbtunnel and Rotterdam's Maastunnel among them. And a good number caught a pun he may not have meant: talking about "the mean time" while sitting in Greenwich.

It went up on Sunday, as his videos always do, and drew close to 400,000 views on its first day, now nearer 800,000. Behind it, two older trips keep ticking along: a Taiwan video about receipts that double as lottery tickets, and his Cambridge ride, "Britain's Cycling Capital Isn't What I Expected," which the description says ends by teasing a sequel on a folding e-bike.

The channel as a whole ran well above its usual daily pace, more than a million views over the week. Among vlog channels of similar size, Randa Rosa and Kate Marie are having the giant weeks and Khloé Kardashian is having a lively one, while Evan sits comfortably mid-pack, with a tunnel doing the work.
