Plane from Austin crashes in Florida; 9 people killed | FOX 7 Austin
Nine people were killed. The Learjet had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for the Bahamas before crashing in South Florida, FOX 7 Austin reports.
Reporting outside the Austin airport, Julieanna Jackson traces the flight's Texas connection and the emergency that followed. According to air traffic control recordings cited in her report, the pilot reported ice building up on the jet, along with turbulence and precipitation. Those reports do not establish what caused the crash, which remains under investigation.
The segment includes dashcam footage of the impact and fire, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis describing a large debris field. Hundreds of nearby residents were evacuated, and emergency responders closed surrounding roads while federal investigators began their work.
The short report reached about 71,000 views within its first fifteen hours, far beyond the station's usual early audience for Shorts. A Spanish-language report about one of the pilots also drew unusually high viewing. FOX 7 Austin's continuing coverage includes the NTSB's media briefing and a follow-up on newly released details.
