A Bronx baby's first cry after choking, caught on NYPD body camera

The 11-month-old was breathing again within the clip, and the officers who saved him came back for a reunion that FOX 5 New York also filmed.

Slower than usual, one standout. FOX 5 New York posted fifteen videos over the week, and the clip that traveled farthest is also the gentlest: body camera footage of NYPD officers in the Bronx working on a choking 11-month-old until he cries. That cry is the turning point of the story. The description says it was how the officers knew he was breathing again, and the video ends with an emotional reunion between the family and the officers who helped.

The comments read like a thank-you card, with a practical streak running through them. Many viewers say every parent should learn this before leaving the hospital, and one explains how first aid for a choking infant differs from the Heimlich maneuver for older children.

The same baby also turned up in Saturday's Top Stories roundup, paired with the off-duty detective stabbed during an attempted robbery in the Bronx, the story the station covered live from the scene, as we reported here. The detective is stable and the baby is recovering. Dan Bowens' Crime in the City episode, a subway stabbing and a woman found dead in Central Park among its segments, rounded out the station's harder news.

The lighter side came from That Was The News Then, whose 45th episode skipped the archives to replay the summer just gone: a Knicks championship, the World Cup in town and, by the episode's chapter list, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce marrying at Madison Square Garden.

Overall the channel ran at well under half its usual daily pace, with subscribers holding at a round million. Even so, its roughly four million views for the week put it third among the big local news stations nearest its size. CBS New York, across town, was also running slow, while FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth was having the busiest stretch of the group.
