Abdul El-Sayed hosts 'Shouldn't be This Hard' tour in Port Huron
Michigan politics filled the end of FOX 2 Detroit's week. Jocelyn Benson and John James met on a stage in Grand Rapids to debate who should be the state's next governor, and the station answered with three uploads in a row: a live special with post-debate analysis, a reaction segment and a quick list of takeaways. All three were only a few hours old when the week closed, still at the very start of their run.
Earlier the same day, Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, brought his 'Shouldn't Be This Hard' tour to Port Huron. That stop became the most watched of the week's new uploads, and its comment section drew viewers from well outside Michigan, one of them writing in from Arizona.
The Tuesday edition of Detroit Talk City is the upload moving fastest right now. It took on the death penalty after Christa Pike's failed execution in Tennessee, with Aaron Tobin of the Oakland County Republican Party making the case for it in Michigan, and turned to teen drug use with Dani Hourani of the Team Wellness Center.
Sports supplied the rest. The Red Wings, winless after two home games, were getting ready to host undefeated Ottawa, with Dylan Larkin set for his season debut months after asking for a trade and losing the captaincy. The description notes that some ticket apps had seats for as little as $7.
The channel as a whole ran below its usual pace, a little over a million views across the seven days. That is the smallest weekly gain among the local stations near its size. FOX 32 Chicago and FOX 35 Orlando were among the few running above their usual pace. Last week's courtroom story about a three-year-old's gun at daycare, which we reported here, was a different kind of crowd. This was a week of debates.
