A water-filled impact crater is complicating the work of investigators in Palm Beach County. In FOX 13 Tampa Bay's most-watched upload of the week, NTSB investigator Timothy Monville describes documenting the wreckage of the Learjet crash that killed all nine people aboard.
The briefing addresses the question in the title, "Did the Learjet break apart before the deadly Florida crash?" Tom Chapman says investigators have evidence of some breakup before impact. That is an early finding, not an established cause. He also recounts the crew's reports of ice, moderate turbulence and a rapid descent during the flight from Austin.
The broadcast goes beyond the aircraft. Monville reports that a person in an adjacent vehicle sustained a leg injury. County officials explain the evacuations around the debris field, shelter support and the need to assess the road's structural integrity before reopening the site.
FOX 13 Tampa Bay posted fifteen uploads this week. The two NTSB briefing uploads are its busiest videos right now, with Dave Osterberg's damp-and-breezy Monday forecast next. Weather remained a substantial part of the schedule: Valerie Mills tracked strong wind shear across the tropics, while Jim Weber watched a disturbance northeast of the Bahamas that he said would move away from the United States if it developed.
Across the channel, the week brought about 4.5 million views while subscribers held steady. Daily viewing is now more than four times its usual level. Among nearby local-news channels, KTLA 5 had a larger weekly views gain; FOX 13 Tampa Bay's gain was slightly above those of CBS LA and CBS New York.
