The 125% rule and a full garage: Electrician U on EV chargers before the install
Dustin Stelzer's walkthrough runs from Level 1 versus Level 2 to the question of whether the house's service can carry the extra load at all.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
What to Know Before Installing EV Chargers
Two uploads, one subject. Electrician U spent its week on the electric car in the garage, and on what an electrician should check before a charger ever goes on the wall.
The longer of the two, "What to Know Before Installing EV Chargers," has Dustin Stelzer working through it chapter by chapter: what EVSE actually is, matching the car to the equipment and the circuit, sizing breakers and conductors under the 125% rule for continuous loads, receptacles and GFCI protection. The last stretch turns to service capacity, where a big new load on an already busy panel can mean an expensive upgrade, and to a modular energy-management system meant to juggle that load instead. It has kept moving well after launch, and it is the second busiest video on the channel right now.
The companion short on that same system started faster and has drawn the livelier comments. Many viewers are trade people, and their questions are practical: what happens when the app is down, whether a smart switch and a contactor would do the same job, how long the electronics will be supported. One points out that the rest of the world already mounts its service gear on DIN rail. Plenty simply prefer a breaker box and a switch they can walk over and flip.
The video doing the most work, though, is "What Is Ghost Voltage?", posted almost four months ago and still the channel's quickest earner. Views overall ran right at their usual pace, and the channel picked up about a thousand subscribers, which keeps it in the middle of the DIY and home channels of its size. Among those, eFIXX, a fellow electrical channel, and Homeworthy had the big weeks.

I got something even better. I got a breaker box and light switches. I just walk over and flip the switch and it instantly connects or disconnects without the need to login with an email address and password.
@brandongnarlow9162See it on YouTubeCouldn’t you also just take a smart switch and a contactor and have the smart switch turn the contactor on and off when needed?
