Electrician U watches a multimeter take a stratospheric field trip

Dustin reacts to Fluke's balloon test, while a sponsored conduit lesson explains why protection depends on more than the tubing.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

The meter survived. Dustin, however, wanted a harder landing.

Electrician U's most-watched new upload follows a Fluke 87V MAX multimeter on a balloon journey roughly 20 miles above Earth. Dustin is reacting to Fluke's promotional testing footage, not conducting the flight himself. The rig encounters extreme cold and low pressure before returning to a field, with subsequent lab checks showing the meter remains functional and accurate.

"The meter didn't hit the ground," Dustin observes. That distinction also occupies viewers: some ask why it wasn't powered on, while others exchange stories about meters surviving years of work and rough handling. There is, naturally, a joke about repeating the experiment to rule out a fluke.

The channel posted four uploads, including a second version of the balloon reaction. But the strongest viewing momentum now belongs to "Choosing the Right Conduit: Everything You Need to Know About IP and NEMA Ratings." Sponsored by ABB, it tackles a less spectacular but practical question: does liquidtight mean water can never get in? Dustin explains why fittings, seals, enclosures and installation conditions matter alongside the conduit itself. A separate ad-labelled upload makes the same distinction in its title.

Electrician U added about 410,000 views over the week, while its subscriber count stayed unchanged. Daily viewing is slightly above its usual level. Among nearby home-and-building channels, 731 Woodworks and Homeworthy had much larger weekly audiences; Electrician U gained more views than rctestflight and The Minimal Mom.

Away from the new uploads, "What Is Ghost Voltage?" remains active, alongside Dustin's Fluke visit with metrologist Jeff Gust, where the question shifts from whether a meter survives to how anyone knows its measurements are right.

  • My fluke 77 survived a factory floor for 5 years. Then I took it on a flight in a checked bag. The case was destroyed , the knob broken and the screen cracked. still worked though. I bought a new knob and taped it up. Still use it 15 years later

  • I have a Fluke 8060 I got new sometime in the mid 1980s. It’s still my primary meter, and it’s still one of the few DMMs that measures both dB and frequency. IMO, it's still about the best meter ever made for an audio tech.
