One bearing was enough. In DEBOSS GARAGE's EcoDiesel teardown, Rich Bosch removes a rod cap and finds the damage that makes this particular engine such a dispiriting workshop prospect: destroyed bearing material, a damaged crankshaft and a connecting rod turned blue by heat.
There were no new uploads this week, but "Everything Wrong With A VM Motori 3.0 EcoDiesel V6" is the channel's busiest video by daily views. Posted in July, it has reached about 170,000 views. Rich's frustration comes with an important contrast: he likes the Ram's comfortable cabin, ride and fuel economy. "This is a shame because that is a beautiful truck," he says before getting deeper into the mechanical trouble.
The investigation moves from press-fit gears and possible valve-to-piston contact to metallic debris in the oil pan. Rich concludes that rebuilding this engine would be uneconomical, though the attached ZF eight-speed automatic has a more promising future. He discusses saving it for another build, including a Wagoneer project. Not everything leaving this truck belongs in the scrap pile.
Elsewhere in the archive, the budget under-dash air-conditioning installation is drawing almost as many daily views as the teardown, with the diesel-electric truck close behind. Across the channel, weekly viewing came to roughly 188,000 views. Subscribers stayed unchanged, while daily viewing is a little below its usual level.
Among nearby motoring channels, George J Saliba had a particularly busy week, and Jim's Automotive Machine Shop also drew substantial viewing. DEBOSS GARAGE had the smallest weekly views gain in that group, with older hands-on projects supplying its viewing rather than a fresh upload.
