Driveway Finds offers a Shelby for a cyclist's pocket change

The classic-car sketch has viewers swapping memories of cheap project cars and improbably good deals.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 407,095 views a day, 7 times a normal first day on this channel (57,983).

The buyer hasn't saved enough. In Driveway Finds' version of the good old days, that barely interrupts the negotiations.

A seller calls out to a passing cyclist and offers him a Shelby GT500. When the younger man explains that he doesn't have the money, the seller points out that the car needs bodywork. His asking price: whatever happens to be in the buyer's pockets.

It's a staged comedy sketch, not an actual bargain listing. The pocket inventory includes two dollars, a lollipop and a pack of cigarettes, which gives some idea of how seriously to take the transaction.

The Short drew about 276,000 views in its first 12 hours, an unusually quick start for Driveway Finds. Its title, "I guess we were born in the wrong generation #classiccar #cars #oldcar #mechanic #racecar #shelby", makes the wistful joke explicit.

Viewers have taken the opening to tell their own bargain-car stories: an RX-7 its owner says they won't sell, an old Chrysler acquired for a case of beer, and a Dodge pickup reportedly exchanged for yard work. Others tease the familiar exaggerations of tales about the old days.

It fits a run of Driveway Finds jokes about the pleasures and inconveniences of older vehicles, from doing without screens to having to lock every door individually. Here, the inconvenience belongs to anyone trying to buy the same cars decades later.

  • I paid 2700 for my 88 rx7. Right before the rotary craze came back. I was offered 15k for it a year ago. Declined it because i enjoy it to much.
  • You forgot the part where it was “up hill, both ways, in the snow”!

  • Fr tho😂😂😂.
"Hey kid. This fully loaded (your favorite muscle car) just needs a fan belt and a starter. I've already got em both. If you can get it running and mow my lawn you can have it"😭😭😭

  • I got a 1990 mustang gt i paid $1000. It was a hunk of junk. It would be better if i didnt later buy a 1988 gt for cheap that was in a lot better shape. Now it sits with an opened engine, no trans, no rear axle, could probably still make money on it how it sits now.
