Raccoon City's body count, and two Resident Evil 3 playthroughs beside it
Dead Meat Games' Kill Count episode on the game is closing in on 300,000 views, while the full canon runs of the original and the remake sit far quieter.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 296,759 views a day, 19 times a normal day (15,404).
A normal day on Dead Meat Games brings in around 15,000 views across the whole channel. Its latest day came in at nearly twenty times that, and almost all of the weight rests on one upload: "Resident Evil 3 | KILL COUNT GAMES," posted on Friday.
As we reported here, the episode passed 100,000 views in its first nine hours. Three days on, it is approaching 300,000, a big total for a channel of this size.
Kill Count is the format James A. Janisse built on the main Dead Meat channel: a horror film, every on-screen death tallied one by one. The games channel, which describes itself as celebrating "everything great and awful" about horror games, turns the same counter on a game's story. Resident Evil 3 gives it a whole city to work with. Jill Valentine is trying to get out of Raccoon City as the outbreak swallows it, and the Nemesis, a towering bioweapon, keeps finding her.
The Kill Count did not go up alone. On the same Friday the channel posted its "canon playthrough" of the game, and it covered more than one version. Two parts carry the full name of the 1999 original, "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis," with a description that jokes "It's like the remake but old." A separate Part 1 goes by plain "Resident Evil 3," the title Capcom gave its 2020 remake. Each of the three sits at about 10,000 views, and a short pointing Kill Count viewers toward the playthroughs is near the same mark.
The body count is the episode people are watching. Perhaps some of them will go on to play through the city's fall from start to finish.
