Ye studies Kai Cenat's Vivet boots at ComplexCon
Many viewers read his face as he looks the boots over, and they wonder how close they come to the Yeezy boots he once made.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 90,870 views a day, 20 times a normal first day on this channel (4,654).
Ye and Kai linked up and spoke about the VIVET boots at #ComplexCon 🔥
A new short on Complex usually ends its first day with a few thousand views. The clip of Ye and Kai Cenat meeting at ComplexCon passed 100,000 in a little over a day.
The title tells the whole setup: the two "linked up and spoke about the VIVET boots." Vivet is Kai Cenat's own fashion label, and Ye spent years turning sneakers and boots into cultural events through Yeezy. Seeing the man behind Yeezy look over a streamer's footwear gave the comment section plenty to say.
And it said a lot. Comments came in about 48 times faster than on a usual first day for the channel's shorts. Most of them are about Ye's expression. Viewers write captions for what they imagine he is thinking, and the most liked comments picture him checking whether the boots look a little too much like the ones he designed. Others see something warmer, a mentor sizing up a student, and one viewer is simply impressed by the cleanest haircut they have seen on him.
Complex posted a second clip of the same meeting, "ICONIC LINK UP," and it also opened far ahead of the channel's usual pace, though it reached well under half as many views. Both came out of a busy ComplexCon day that also included Destroy Lonely being baffled by a magician and Noah Centineo jumping on cars at a 'Street Fighter' set.
Kai Cenat has been good to the channel lately. As we reported here, his sit-down about quitting streaming led Complex's week in late September.

The numbers
One short from the festival pulled far ahead of everything else the channel posted that day, and its comment section was busier still.
