Colby Fulton meets a snare-stick surprise in "Jig 2"
An Oak Mountain High School performance from 2011 supplies the solo, while viewers bring their own marching-band memories.
Why this story? The video is running at 79,213 views a day, 5.5 times its usual pace (14,486).
Oak mountain high school drum line #shorts
Colby Fulton knows the cadence, but a snare drummer still catches him off guard. Partway through Oak Mountain High School's "Jig 2," a trick stick movement gets an amazed laugh from the drummer watching above the archival footage.
"This is insane," Fulton says. The split-screen Short is a reaction to a performance dated October 28, 2011, not a newly filmed school appearance. Snare, tenor and bass drummers carry the cadence while Fulton comments on the speed and waits for the next section.
Four days after upload, "Oak mountain high school drum line #shorts" has added about 79,000 views in a day, more than five times its usual daily pace. It is another "Jig 2" moment for the channel, following the separate high-school-band clip we reported here earlier this week.
The comments offer two different ways into the music. Several listeners hear "Mary Had a Little Lamb" in the opening, while marching-band viewers recognize "Jig 2." One recalls playing its solo; another describes a band tradition of forming a giant spiral on the track after the final halftime show, regardless of the football result.
