Stand by Me and a long-awaited ice cream: Chris Must List goes live from Santo Domingo

His only upload of the week was a livestream from the Dominican capital, and its comment section filled with well-wishes and talk of a childhood story.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Chris Must List, the self-described danger traveler who says he is not your average tourist, kept things low-key this week. His one new upload was a livestream from Santo Domingo, the Dominican capital, posted on October 4.

The chat around it reads less like a travel show and more like a check-in among old friends. Many viewers send get-well wishes and say they are glad to see him back. Others pick up on a story he told from his own childhood, and several detour into Stand by Me, the film it brought to mind. One person is happy he finally tracked down some ice cream to eat while watching true crime. Greetings arrive from Grenada, Chicago and Brooklyn, along with plenty of people who missed the live and caught the replay.

The heavier lifting came from older trips. A walk along Copacabana and Ipanema, posted in late July and billed as the side of Rio's famous beaches most visitors never see, has passed 300,000 views and is still the busiest video on the channel. Close behind is his visit to Mountain View, the Anchorage neighborhood he describes as one of Alaska's most notorious, where people told him about the bullets still in their bodies.

Together those trips kept the channel well above its usual daily views and added about a thousand subscribers. That is a nice place to be in a travel group where most channels near his size, including Truck House Life and Scarlet & Seth, are running below their normal pace. Only Ame in a van shares his upswing.
