A cheater with 16,792 games, and his opponents turn up in Nelson Lopez's comments

Nelson's six-day-old rapid stream passed 75,000 views, and two of the players he faced in it stopped by to say hello.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Four uploads went up on Chess Vibes, and the one people are talking about is the long one: "🔴 I Played A Cheater With 16,792 Games Without Realizing It." Nelson Lopez, whose channel promises to explain chess so anyone can follow it, spent a rapid session talking through his thinking, and somewhere in the pairings sat an account with a very large number of games and, as the title admits, a secret he did not spot in time.

The comment section turned into a small reunion. One viewer announces they were his first-game opponent; another says they were the second game, found the stream afterward and enjoyed the tough endgame on a short clock. Others pick up the cheating thread, pointing out that some accounts mix engine moves with human ones to avoid an easy ban. And a few cannot get past a detail from the stream: there is apparently a sauna in the Chess Vibes castle.

The rest of the week was a tactics run. "How To Spot Tactics So Fast It Feels Like Cheating" came first, and Monday's "Stop Missing Tactics — Here's The First Signal To Train Your Eye" is now the channel's fastest video, passing 20,000 views in its first 17 hours.

The channel as a whole moved at about half its usual daily pace, and so did most chess, poker and card channels near its size. The big exception was Greg Goes All In, which kept up its usual huge clip with close to 12 million views in seven days.

  • Nelson I just watched the first game, I cant tell you how impressive was that endgame. Very well done. The other guys are not streaming explaining their thought process an audience so short of time is clearly understandable. And you still put them in serious trouble. Bravo.
