"Coach Prime wasn't happy": Deion Sanders, and a comment section that answers back
The short's description is a single word, so its viewers filled in the rest, and most of them landed on special teams and the man in charge of them.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 149,445 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (11,344).
Coach Prime wasn’t happy… #football #collegefootball
Deion Sanders made his name as a player who rarely looked flustered. In CBS Sports College Football's newest short, titled simply "Coach Prime wasn't happy…", he is on the other side of that, frustrated on the sideline.
The clip gives little away on its own: the description says only "WATCH." Its comment section says much more, and it filled up nearly six times faster than on one of the channel's usual first days. Much of the talk is about special teams. One of the most liked comments suggests hiring a special teams coach. Another viewer puts the trouble down to practice, saying unit callouts have to be drilled before game day. A third notes with some glee that it happened coming out of a timeout.
The running joke turns the frustration back on Sanders himself. The top comment says he should have a strong word with the head coach, and plenty of others make the same point more bluntly: he is the coach. That joke lands on a man with an unusual résumé for the job. Sanders is a Hall of Fame cornerback who also played Major League Baseball, and he coached three seasons at Jackson State before taking over at Colorado in December 2022.
The short passed 150,000 views in its first day, on a channel where a new short usually opens near 11,000. It went up alongside a Week 6 power rankings show and a Texas-Oklahoma preview, and it drew more viewers than either of them by a wide margin. It follows the Dylan Stewart suspension news and Dan Lanning's thoughts on USC's sideline as the latest short to run well past the channel's usual start, and the channel's daily views have more than doubled.
