King tides turn Fort Lauderdale deliveries into a workaround
CBS Miami's report follows an interrupted evening walk and a delivery driver working from higher ground, with better conditions expected Wednesday.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 47,617 views a day, 24 times a normal first day on this channel (1,955).
King tides had double the flooding in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood neighborhoods Monday evening
Tanner Roland parks on higher ground, then uses an electric jack to move deliveries through the water. In CBS Miami's report on Monday evening's king tides, even getting goods to their destination requires a change of routine.
Nearby, visitor Tommy Krcmaric describes an evening walk cut short by how quickly the water rose. The route around the block was no longer the route home: his family had to detour.
Reporter Larry Seward delivers his live report from a narrow refuge in Fort Lauderdale's Riviera Isles neighborhood. "This is Riviera Isle Drive behind me, and the only dry spot is this median where I'm standing," he says. The report also shows crews in Hollywood pumping water over a bridge.
The segment drew roughly 48,000 views in its first day, more than twenty times the channel's usual start for short uploads. Its street-level details show how the flooding interrupted ordinary errands, beyond the stranded vehicles we reported on here earlier.
There is a change in the station's Wednesday update: CBS Miami says the tides were expected to have peaked Tuesday, with better conditions Wednesday. The coastal flooding alert is scheduled to expire Wednesday night.
