A national story on a Boston station: the pilot stabbed on a Dubai–Tel Aviv flight
Tina Kraus' short CBS News report became the channel's most-watched new video, with a ruling in the Lindsay Clancy trial close behind.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 97,015 views a day, 26 times a normal first day on this channel (3,796).
Motive under investigation after pilot stabbed on flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv
CBS Boston is where WBZ-TV puts its Massachusetts news. Its most-watched new video began on a plane over the Middle East. Seven hours after it went up, the short report on a pilot stabbed during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv had passed 40,000 views. That puts it on course for about twenty-five times a usual first day for the channel.
The report comes from Tina Kraus of CBS News and aired on WBZ News Evening. It describes a pilot stabbed in flight, and the description says the attacker also tried to bring the plane down. Investigators are still looking for a motive, which is the open question in the title. The comments came in far faster than usual. In seven hours the video drew more than twenty, where a new short on the channel usually gets about two in its whole first day. Much of that talk is about the motive the report leaves open.
The second-biggest video of the day came from much closer to home. A judge denied Lindsay Clancy's motion for a required finding of not guilty. Her attorney had argued that prosecutors did not present enough evidence at trial. The report drew about ten times a usual first day.
Even with both videos, the channel's day as a whole ran at about half its usual daily views. That is a gentler pace than the storm weekend, when, as we reported here, one nor'easter report packed many first days into one. The newest uploads are local again: Salem's Haunted Happenings Grand Parade opening the city's busiest season, and a great white shark taking a fish off a line near Cape Cod, filmed by National Geographic crews.

The numbers
One short report pulled far ahead of the channel's usual first day, even though the channel as a whole had a slower day than normal.
