A Lamborghini Murciélago ought to look comfortable beside a Volvo family SUV on a runway. In carwow's latest test, it doesn't get that luxury. Mat Watson's electric EX90 pulls away sharply enough to make the older supercar work for its reputation.

The unlikely pairing has drawn roughly 700,000 views since yesterday. Watson drives the Volvo, while guest driver James takes the Lamborghini, with its naturally aspirated V12 supplying a very different soundtrack to the electric car alongside it.

On paper, the Volvo has more power but weighs almost a tonne more. On the runway, two other details become crucial: the SUV reaches its speed limiter, while the Lamborghini needs a good launch and well-timed gear changes. Repeated runs produce different winners rather than a simple verdict that newer means faster.

Then Watson puts the Volvo's family-car credentials to practical use, loading it with passengers for another attempt. The extra ballast changes the contest considerably. Later, rolling starts show how much the Lamborghini's starting gear matters, before an emergency braking test asks a different question of the much heavier SUV.

The comments pick apart the Lamborghini's shifts and launch technique, but there's another conversation running alongside the stopwatch analysis. Viewers recall Murciélago bedroom posters and single out its engine sound; one suggests the pairing makes more sense as a two-car garage than an either-or choice.

That's the distinction Watson's test leaves room for: matching a supercar's acceleration isn't quite the same thing as replacing what people want from it.
