AI coming for developers' jobs? Barnacules takes the question to #TechTalk

The one new episode runs from OpenAI and Nvidia's safety work to the case for running AI on your own hardware.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

On an ordinary day, Barnacules Nerdgasm draws a little over 5,000 views. Lately it has been running closer to 8,000, and most of that lift traces back to a single Saturday upload.

That upload is the week's only new video, a #TechTalk episode asking whether AI is replacing software developers. The description lays out the route: coding assistants and AI agents, OpenAI's vision for AI-powered engineering, Nvidia's work on safety and agent governance, and a long look at local versus cloud AI. The worry running through it is privacy, billed in the title as "Privacy Dying." It is a natural subject for Jerry Berg, the former Microsoft engineer behind the channel, whose about text lists the weekly show's co-hosts as AuxxZillary and actor David Hewlett.

The episode picked up nearly all of its views in its first day, and nothing else on the channel is moving at anything like its pace. The two previous episodes, one about an AI agent reportedly breaching an Australian health data portal and Flock's lip-reading technology, the other about AI coding vulnerabilities, have gone quiet.

The comments are small but telling. One longtime viewer says he thought the channel had disappeared, until he found the live streams. Another says he is tired of hearing about AI at all.

Among the tech channels of similar size, Barnacules sits third by subscribers, though his week is the calmest of the group. jakkuh and Retro Game Corps are the ones having big weeks.
