Cyber Waffle's 'HAHAHAHAHAHAHA' turns the privacy argument around
The title gives nothing away, but the comments point to a surveillance-tech boss getting a taste of the scrutiny he sells.
Why this story? The video is running at 82,130 views a day, 14 times its usual pace (5,836).
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" is about as unhelpful as a title gets, and that seems to be the joke. It is the latest laugh from CYBER WAFFLE, the British channel whose about page reads, in full, "Just a man with opinions", and whose recent uploads deal almost entirely with UK internet law, digital ID and the Online Safety Act.
The comment section fills in what the title leaves out. Going by what viewers write, the video is about the head of a surveillance company finding his own home turned into a public joke online, at one point listed as a public toilet. Most of the talk is about the reversal. Several viewers point out that people who build tools for watching everyone else suddenly care a great deal about privacy when the lens swings around. One commenter offers a test for anyone who says the innocent have nothing to hide: ask for all their passwords and see how that goes.
The video went up on October 1 and had a respectable first day of around 21,000 views. Then it took off. Four days in it has passed 100,000, with more than 80,000 of those arriving in a single day, and the channel as a whole had about three times its usual traffic.
It sits in a crowded week. Five other uploads followed in quick succession, from a social media ban date to "They Just Killed Gaming," which is close behind on more than 50,000 views. The one with no words in its title is the one carrying the channel.
