Artisan Electrics finds a farm's solar power going to waste

Jordan and Tom inspect uneven panels, tangled DC wiring and a battery system that cannot export to the grid.

  1. 1:10Luke says the farm's solar installation remains incomplete after eight months.
  2. 2:04The inspection finds soil pipe used as conduit and screws piercing CCTV data cabling.
  3. 6:30Tom identifies sagging panels, missing end clamps and clamping outside the intended zones.
  4. 10:10The monitoring app shows power generation and battery storage, but the system cannot export to the grid.
  5. 15:45Opened trunking reveals multiple poorly arranged DC cable joints.
  6. 18:44Jordan outlines changes to the inverter configuration, DC wiring and incoming three-phase supply.

Can a solar system generate electricity and still leave its owner with a substantial problem? At Luke's farm, Jordan finds exactly that: the Sigenergy equipment is producing power, but the installation remains unfinished and cannot export to the grid.

"Is This The WORST Solar Install We've Ever Seen???" was the most-watched of Artisan Electrics' three uploads, reaching about 104,000 views. It also carries the channel's strongest daily video momentum. Luke, who runs a farm and accommodation business, says the job has dragged on for eight months. His way of coping is painfully succinct: "I have to laugh, because I'd be crying otherwise."

The inspection gives that frustration concrete form. Jordan finds plumbing soil pipe used as conduit and a screw piercing a CCTV cable. A drone reveals the uneven array; up on the roof, Tom identifies missing clamps and panels secured outside their intended clamping zones. Later, opened trunking exposes a jumble of DC connections. Jordan's point is simple: every extra joint introduces another potential weak point.

The shorter uploads keep the workmanship theme going. "Just keep spinning..." examines cable glands that fail to grip, while "I've Spotted Some Solar Limpets" questions shortcuts on slate roofs. The latter is also among the channel's busiest videos, alongside an older upload about non-working EV chargers.

Subscribers grew by roughly a thousand over the week, although today's channel views are a little below their usual daily level. Among nearby DIY and building channels, Chris Garage78 had a particularly substantial weekly audience; Artisan Electrics had the third-largest weekly view gain in that group.

For Luke's installation, Jordan leaves the door open to a return visit: if the team comes back to put it right, he says they will film the work.
