Artisan Electrics revisits sodium batteries, now in stackable form

The Galvani installation offers easier expansion and a cold-weather charging claim, while viewers ask about price and lifespan.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 40,518 views a day, 6.2 times a normal first day on this channel (6,512).

Things we can learn from the video

Press to jump

  1. 1:52The installer explains how the stackable battery modules, junction box and inverter fit together.
  2. 3:00Eleven Energy's Neil says sodium chemistry supports charging in cold conditions, including at minus 15 degrees Celsius.
  3. 4:24Workshop training shows the internal plug connections and parallel connections between modules.
  4. 6:24The presenters highlight modular expansion and what they describe as fully usable battery capacity.
  5. 8:39The host identifies lower energy density as the drawback: larger, heavier batteries for the same stored energy.
  6. 9:30Neil describes UK installer support, smart integration for EV charging and possible future combined inverter-battery units.

Charging a home battery in freezing weather is a practical selling point. In Artisan Electrics' latest review, Eleven Energy's technical chief Neil says its sodium-ion system can charge at temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius, taking five hours to go from empty to full.

That is one part of the case made in "Sodium Batteries Just Got BETTER! Here's What's Changed…", which drew about 25,000 views in ten hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full-day audience.

Nearly a year after its first sodium-ion installation, Artisan Electrics returns to the technology with Eleven Energy's stackable Galvani system. Tom gives the installer's perspective, Jordan checks the finished job, and workshop footage shows how the modules connect. The change is tangible: battery storage that can grow by adding modules, rather than the older battery-box arrangement.

The host praises the easier installation and says the system makes its full battery capacity usable. But he also identifies a trade-off that matters in an actual home: sodium batteries take up more space and weigh more for the same stored energy than typical lithium iron phosphate systems.

The video combines installation footage with interviews with the manufacturer's team, rather than a long-term endurance test. In the comments, several viewers want the purchasing questions answered: what does it cost, how many charge cycles should it last, and what warranty comes with it? Another suggests putting the inverter beneath the battery stack so future additions would leave the house wiring undisturbed.

What viewers say

  • When is anyone going to do a stackable battery system with the inverter/hub as the first unit *on the bottom* with the battery modules stacking *on top* of each other. Then the expansion is literally just adding a module on top whilst all the wiring to/from the house and panels remains undisturbed.

  • Regarding stackable batteries, what I'd like to know is:
    * the approximate labour cost for having an installer add another battery (assuming no cabling needs adjusting)
    * does this "adding a new battery" by an installer qualify for 0-rate VAT?
    * does the vendor (Eleven Energy, Sigen, etc) allow batteries to be added by consumers, where no cabling needs adjusting?
