Sam Akpro - "Gauzy"

Empty bottles, a cigarette burning in an ashtray and a road disappearing into darkness: Sam Akpro's "Gauzy" keeps its world small and nocturnal. Akpro sits facing the camera in a dim room, then heads outside in a hooded puffer jacket. The highway footage gives the video its stretches of open space.

Posted on Thursday, "Sam Akpro - \"Gauzy\"" was ANTI- Records' only new upload of the week and had gathered roughly 4,300 views. Obsolete directed, shot and edited the video; Akpro produced the song and shares its writing credit with Tyson McVey. That makes this a particularly focused release week, with one artist handling much of the music and one filmmaker shaping the images.

Akpro also features in the older uploads drawing daily views: "Sam Akpro - \"Headspace\" (Full Album Stream)" is another track from the Gauzy EP, with violin credited to Cameron Jacobs. Alongside it is case/lang/veirs' live version of "Constant Craving," bringing Neko Case, k.d. lang and Laura Veirs together on vocals. Of those featured uploads, "Gauzy" has by far the strongest daily momentum.

Across the catalog, ANTI- Records collected about 410,000 views and added subscribers over the week. Daily viewing is a little above its usual pace. Nearby music channels offer a mixed picture: The Current is close to its normal daily audience, Big Beat Records is running slower than usual, and VERZUZ is enjoying a lift. For ANTI- Records, the fresh point of entry is Akpro's dark-room-to-open-road journey.
