Suno and the 'Bad Future' keeps Adam Neely's AI argument playing

Eight months after it went up, his feature-length look at AI music has passed 1.1 million views, with a Blue Note big band concert behind it.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Suno, AI Music, and the Bad FutureSuno, AI Music, and the Bad Future

"Suno, AI Music, and the Bad Future" is Adam Neely's long, chaptered reckoning with the AI song generator, running from a challenge accepted to three questions, deskilling, techno-optimism and a closing round of predictions. Posted eight months ago, it is still the busiest video on the New York bassist's channel, which put up nothing new this week.

It has company on the same subject. "They Teach AI Music at Music School Now...", in which he takes aim at Berklee's new classes in AI songwriting and the president's ties to Suno, is also among the videos drawing the most views right now. The argument clearly has staying power.

In between sits something with no argument at all: a full concert film of Sungazer Plus, recorded over two July nights at the Blue Note. Sungazer is Neely's duo with drummer Shawn Crowder, and here it grows into a big band with seventeen players, Neely on bass and writing the arrangements, through tunes like "Hot Saturn" and "Skrontch." The description promises an album one day.

Without a new Monday upload, the channel still ran at well above its usual daily views, nearly double. Among music channels of similar size, Mr. Tabs is having the busiest stretch, while Charles Cornell keeps to his everyday pace.
