Why this story? The video is running at 317,315 views a day, 28 times its usual pace (11,190).

Danny Dyer is the gift that keeps on giving 😂 #8OutOf10Cats

A short clip on the 8 Out of 10 Cats channel usually ticks along gently, a few thousand views here, ten thousand there. This one opened that way too. Danny Dyer's moment, posted on September 26, had a first day of around 20,000 views and settled in like the rest.

Then, six days later, it ran at nearly thirty times its usual pace and passed a third of a million views. That puts it well ahead of everything else the channel posted this week, including Rob Beckett and Joe Lycett on Donald Trump and Mel Giedroyc's burp. The channel as a whole had an ordinary day. Dyer simply took a bigger share of it.

The title promises little beyond its own verdict. The comments fill in the rest. Many viewers point to Sean Lock, the show's longtime team captain, laughing beside him. A line about something having "got in" has become the running joke, and plenty of people bring up UFOs and Dyer's own BBC Three documentary on the subject.

Dyer is best known as an actor: the Cockney landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders, and before that the cult clubbing film Human Traffic. Several commenters say their regard for him has grown in recent years. What they keep coming back to is how he tells a story completely straight while the panel around him comes apart.
