Jack Smith's Senate testimony opens twenty-six times the Post's norm
A day after an FDA hearing led the channel, a second Senate session takes the lead, while the Post's channel as a whole runs at about half its usual pace.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 131,860 views a day, 26 times a normal first day on this channel (4,972).
‘I will not be silenced’: Jack Smith defends Trump prosecutions in heated Senate hearing
Another hearing, another crowd. In less than half a day, the Washington Post's clip of Jack Smith before a Senate panel passed 85,000 views. At that pace its first day comes in at roughly twenty-six times what a new upload on the channel usually gathers.
That makes two Senate sessions in a row leading the channel, after an FDA hearing drew the attention the day before. This one is moving against the current. The Post's channel overall is running at about half its normal daily pace, and the news channels around it, from NewsNation to The Guardian, are in a slower stretch as well.
The title leads with Smith's own words, "I will not be silenced," and presents him defending his prosecutions of Donald Trump in what the Post calls a heated hearing. Smith is the former special counsel who led the federal cases against Trump, so this is the prosecutor speaking for himself, in public, before the senators. Several hundred comments had already gathered under the clip.
