A new GB News video usually opens to a modest audience, a few thousand views across its entire first day. Nigel Farage's reaction to Andy Burnham's pledges had gathered around 38,000 before its first day was half over. That put it on course for roughly ten times the usual opening.

People were also talking back. Comments came in at more than half the rate of likes, a busy comment section for a broadcaster's clip. Other news networks of a similar size were mostly subdued. CBC News: The National and 7NEWS Australia were both below their normal daily pace, and AccuWeather was far below its own.

The title puts Farage's verdict in quotation marks, "General election manifesto?!", and the channel's capital letters call the pledges shocking. Burnham, first elected Mayor of Greater Manchester in 2017 and Health Secretary in Gordon Brown's government before that, is speaking as a regional leader. Farage, who led UKIP and later the Brexit Party, answers with a jab that treats those plans as the opening of a national campaign.
