Christa Pike's halted execution passes 50,000 views on True Crime Australia
The short news clip from Tennessee drew far more viewers than the channel's same-day reports on the Flydubai cockpit attack and a highway rescue.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 58,141 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (2,364).
Killer Christa Pike remained alive following two doses of lethal injection
A new short on True Crime Australia usually finds a couple of thousand viewers on its first day. Its report on Christa Pike reached more than 51,000 in eighteen hours, roughly two dozen times that pace.
The clip is brief and plain. Its description says Tennessee's execution stalled after Pike, a condemned killer, remained alive following two doses of lethal injection. The description calls it a would-be historic execution. The video's title carries the same fact.
The channel was busy elsewhere that day too. It posted several reports on the Flydubai flight where a pilot was attacked in the cockpit, including passengers describing the moment and footage of the injured pilot being taken off the plane. There was also dashcam and bodycam video of officers pulling a man from a burning truck on an interstate. None of those passed a few thousand views. The Tennessee short stood well apart from them.
The whole channel had a heavier day than usual, with total views running close to three times its normal daily level, so the Pike clip was only part of the traffic. The channel's own about text says its aim is to tell the stories of people affected by crime without sensationalizing them. Here that meant a short clip built on a single sentence of news.
