Netanyahu's extended interview on the FlyDubai cockpit stabbing runs eighteen times past CBS Evening News' usual start
The longer cut of his conversation with Tony Dokoupil left the program's own full broadcast far behind, and its comment section filled even faster than its views.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 239,099 views a day, 18 times a normal first day on this channel (13,248).
Extended interview: Benjamin Netanyahu discusses alleged pilot stabbing on flight to Israel
CBS Evening News posted the full version of its conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu on October 1. Twenty-eight hours later it had close to 290,000 views. A new video on the channel usually finds about 13,000 in its first day.
The subject is Wednesday's incident aboard a FlyDubai flight to Israel. According to the video's description, the pilot was stabbed in the cockpit and an attempt was made to crash the plane. The Israeli prime minister speaks with Tony Dokoupil, the longtime CBS Mornings co-host, about what happened on board. The broadcast had already run a shorter piece of the interview. This upload carries the longer version.
The channel stayed with the story. Its September 30 full broadcast, which opened on the flight, drew more than four times a usual first day. The October 1 edition promises newly released video of the incident.
The comment section moved faster still, at more than twenty times its usual first-day pace. Most of it is about the people on the plane rather than the man being interviewed. Many viewers single out the injured pilot, whom they describe as Indian, for getting the cockpit door open. Others point to the passengers who stepped in, among them one commenters call a plumber, and several ask that they be given bravery awards. A smaller group takes issue with the questions Dokoupil asked.
The interview did not lift the whole channel. Daily views for CBS Evening News were below their usual level, and the day belonged to this one video.

One interview ran far ahead of everything else the evening newscast posted, even on a slower day for the channel as a whole.
