From a 9-to-5 to a truck camper: Tim Johnson's 'Driving an Old Truck Across America'
His one new video tells how he left office life behind, and it passed 115,000 views in four days while the Alaska Highway drive kept rolling behind it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Driving an Old Truck Across America
Tim Johnson's Thursday upload is part road trip, part life story. "Driving an Old Truck Across America" puts the homemade wooden camper on its Ford back on the interstate, and the description frames the miles around one idea: he expected to work a 9-to-5 forever, and then he got out.
It went up on October 1 and has passed 115,000 views in four days, far ahead of anything else on the channel right now. The comments split along a familiar line. Many viewers cheer the old, paid-off truck that is easy to fix, while others point out that something was already broken less than a minute in, or that he drove without a spare tire. Some mention a pinball arcade and a little girl who was delighted by the camper, and several warn him about window tint laws in British Columbia for the drive back to Alaska. One viewer explains the giant boulders scattered across Washington: ice floes from Glacial Lake Missoula carried them there at the end of the Ice Age.
Behind it, the earlier Alaska Highway episode, two 30-year-old Fords and a border crossing into the United States, is still drawing a steady audience. So is his August film about the Six Mile Creek Whitewater & Bluegrass Festival, the free event he has thrown in Alaska for 19 years.
The channel ran a little below its usual daily pace and added about a thousand subscribers, which leaves it near 791,000. Among travel channels of a similar size it sat right in the middle, while Michael Drake had the busiest week by a wide margin.

The boulders a viewer mentions were carried by floods from Glacial Lake Missoula. In which present-day state did that ice-age lake lie?
Glacial Lake Missoula covered parts of western Montana before its ice dam burst again and again, sending the Missoula Floods across Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
