Flying cars, bullet trains and an airbag jacket: Steven Ndukwu's China series reaches episode six

The Nigerian filmmaker's newest chapter tests eVTOLs and driverless cars, while the series opener from Shenzhen closes in on a million views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Steven Ndukwu spent his one upload of the week in the air, or close to it. "i tested China's futuristic flying transport systems EP. 6" puts the African storyteller, as his channel calls him, inside eVTOLs (the electric flying cars his description promises), on bullet trains and in the back of driverless cars.

It is the sixth stop in a series that has clearly found its audience. The new episode passed 140,000 views in four days and is the channel's fastest mover, but the older chapters have not gone quiet. Episode three, about a city built into a mountain, keeps climbing, and the opener, a tour of Shenzhen with robot restaurants, drone food delivery and a robot concert, is close to a million views three weeks on.

The comments under the new one read like a postcard exchange. Viewers write in from Nigeria and Cape Verde, several say they have never been to China and are seeing it through his phone, and one longtime follower remembers when the channel had 10,000 subscribers. A few have spotted a jacket mishap that turned into an accidental advert for an airbag jacket, and one viewer wonders, half laughing, what happens to your hands in a flying car with no windshield.

The whole channel is running well above its usual pace. Among travel channels of a similar size, Michael Drake remains in a league of his own for views, while Court and Nate and Living The Van Life are also having warm weeks. Ndukwu's China run keeps him firmly in that company.
