A $400 Goodwill Onewheel lands on TronicsFix's repair bench
The broken electric board, sold new for around $1,000, is the channel's one new video and has passed 480,000 views in six days.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I Bought a BROKEN $1,000 Onewheel for $400 - Can I Fix It?!
On a usual day TronicsFix draws a little over a quarter of a million views. Right now it is running somewhat above that, and most of the lift traces back to a single board.
The board is a Onewheel, the self-balancing, single-wheel electric ride. This one came from Goodwill, broken, for $400, against a price tag the title puts at $1,000. The description admits Onewheels are not known for being repair friendly, which on a channel whose about text is built around the line that repair matters is close to a dare. It drew nearly 190,000 views in its first day and is still the busiest thing on the channel by a wide margin.
Behind it, the older bench projects keep turning over. A 30-year-old game console bought broken for $396 is close to 600,000 views two weeks on. A PS4 that a viewer pulled out of a scrapyard, the Destiny: The Taken King special edition, is still picking up a few thousand a day six weeks later.
Among the gadget channels nearest it in size, TronicsFix sits fourth by subscribers. The busy stretches belong to Hipyo Tech and Paul's Hardware, both running well above their usual pace, while META PCs, by far the biggest draw of the group, is having a quieter spell than normal. LGR, just above TronicsFix in subscribers, came home from a vintage computer festival with a car full of old machines. Old hardware is having a good week on both channels.
