Richard Hammond wants people to take them seriously. The spoof sponsor decals on the BMW may not help, but getting a used diesel through Silverstone's 24-hour endurance race is a serious assignment.

"Top Gear goes racing... in a diesel BMW | Top Gear Classic" brings the Series 10 challenge to BBC Studios' official archive channel. Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Hammond and the Stig share driving duties, while the mechanics face a rather more urgent task: replacing a damaged fuel pump before the start. Making the grid becomes an achievement in itself, before the long night has even begun.

The week's sole new upload reached roughly 100,000 views in its first ten hours and is currently the channel's busiest video. In the comments, viewers repeatedly pick out the longer challenge format and ask for more uploads like it. Others draw attention to the mechanics' work, or to the contrast between Hammond worrying about tyre life and May eating a banana in the background.

There is movement elsewhere in the archive, too. Top Gear Classic's particular attraction this week is less about polished machinery than the people trying to keep one unlikely BMW running.
