Hammond's Noble at Imola heads Top Gear Classic's week of races and chases
The 45-minute compilation also directs a car chase, races homemade mobility scooters and ends on rallycross.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Reckless Races and Car Chases | Top Gear Classic
"Reckless Races and Car Chases | Top Gear Classic" is the BBC Studios clips channel doing what it does best: stitching old episodes into one long sitting. Jeremy, James and Richard race supercars at Imola, turn film directors for a car chase, build mobility scooters for a race that is low on speed and high on drama, then finish at a rallycross track. It passed 200,000 views in under a week.
The comment section has settled on a hero. Viewers keep coming back to Richard Hammond in a Noble with no driver aids, no ABS and a manual gearbox, finishing within seconds of a professional in a Ferrari 458, and several call him the best driver of the three that day. Others enjoy James strapped into a racing harness in a vehicle slower than walking pace, and more than one names the rallycross among their favorite challenges ever.
The other new uploads were Jeremy taking the McLaren P1 from Bruges to Spa, from Series 21, and a short of caravan conkers from Series 5. Meanwhile a 20-day-old roundup of the wildest challenges of 2011, burning Skoda Yeti and Albanian police chase included, is drawing almost exactly as many daily views as the new compilation.
The channel ran a little above its usual pace, and among the motoring channels near its size it added the most views of the week, about four million, roughly three times what Chevrolet managed. RESTORED and Speed Academy were having much quieter stretches.

What viewers say
that imola race has got to be some of my favorite top gear content ever made. Hammond was definitely the best wheel man that day driving that noble around with no driver aids
@flxz.See it on YouTubeI do love the comedy juxtaposition of James having an FIA spec harness in a vehicle that's slightly slower than walking.
@Gordanovich02See it on YouTubeThe rallycross challenge is easily in the top five of my all time Top Gear challenges.
