Ryan Jon's hens speech: "Too much Toni could never be enough"
A live tribute to bride-to-be Toni Lodge turns their first radio demo into a story about friendship and being yourself.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 312,457 views a day, 24 times a normal first day on this channel (12,996).
THE HENS SPEECH
Ryan Jon wears a T-shirt bearing Toni Lodge's face and the words "Sexy Hen". His speech, though, gets past the joke to something Toni once worried about: being too much.
In Toni and Ryan's Short "THE HENS SPEECH", Ryan recalls meeting his co-host at Melbourne's KIIS FM, where she worked as an audio engineer. He remembers finding her extraordinarily funny, but also shy and anxious about getting in the way.
They recorded a radio demo together and put it on TikTok. In Ryan's telling, that gave other people a chance to discover the Toni he already knew.
Then his voice catches. With Toni beside him on stage and audience members wearing "TONI'S BRIDESMAID" sashes, he tells her, "Too much Toni could never be enough." He finishes by wishing her well for her wedding and marriage, calling for applause and sharing a hug.
The clip drew roughly 124,000 views in six hours, a much faster start than the duo's usual Shorts. Its comment section had also already grown far beyond a normal full day's response.
Viewers keep returning to the reassurance in Ryan's speech, and to the moment his voice breaks. Another recurring surprise is how recently the friendship began: Ryan says they met five years ago, while several commenters had assumed they went back decades. The speech takes them back to a radio workplace, before the podcast, when Toni wasn't yet sure how much space she could take up.
