Tom from Texas checks the storefronts Western brands left behind

His mall tour finds Apple products, Lego sets and renamed fast-food outlets among fourteen uploads this week.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

The signs have changed, but Tom from Texas keeps finding familiar products underneath them. In "Brands that "left" Russia because of the sanctions", he visits Russian stores selling Apple devices, Lego sets and Sephora Collection cosmetics, alongside the renamed successors to McDonald's and KFC.

At Mir Kubikov, which he translates as "Cube World", a new mascot accompanies recognizable Lego boxes. At the former Nike location, he points to Nike branding remaining on the security gates. These are observations about what is on sale, rather than proof that the original companies still operate the stores or supply them directly.

The short mall tour was the most watched of his new uploads this week, reaching roughly 165,000 views. It also returns to a subject familiar to longtime viewers: his similarly titled 2022 Short is among his most-watched Shorts of all time.

There was plenty beyond shopping across fourteen uploads: the advantages and drawbacks of a Soviet-era apartment, things he misses about Russian supermarkets, and problems with his Soviet-era car. A barbecue video adds a more personal cultural expectation: his Russian fiancée's family thinks being from Texas means he knows his way around the grill.

The channel brought in nearly 1.5 million weekly views, narrowly the largest total among its nearby travel peers, while its subscriber count stayed unchanged. Daily viewing is now more than twice its usual level. The busiest upload at present is the follow-up, "Things that have ACTUALLY changed in Russia because of sanctions", giving the storefront tour a companion with a different question.
