AustinGum, glow gear and a straw gadget: This Is tours the worst of Shark Tank
Austin Evans and Matt Ansini's only upload of the week passed 110,000 views in five days, and its comment section is mostly a tribute to Matt.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
WORST Shark Tank Products
Five days old, and "WORST Shark Tank Products" is the newest thing on This Is and also the busiest. It drew close to 60,000 views on its first day and has kept going since, at nearly twice the daily pace of last week's "Tech's WORST Fails."
The premise is simple: Austin Evans and Matt Ansini, the channel's two hosts, try out pitches from the long-running investor show, where hopefuls ask the Sharks for money. The chapter titles hint at how that went. There is a gum bit that ends with the invention of "AustinGum," a stretch of glowing gear for you and your friends, a lot of bundling up, some suction, a banana segment and a chapter announcing that a "new cast member just dropped." Viewers keep coming back to the instructions for one straw gadget, and to a moment around the fourteen-minute mark that the hosts probably did not intend as a double meaning.
Mostly, though, the comments are about Matt. The top replies salute his commitment to the bit, and several note how much work he has put into his health over the past months. A few called it a fever dream of an episode. One viewer warned others not to watch it over lunch.
The channel as a whole ran a bit below its usual pace, with the subscriber count holding at 510,000. Among tech channels of a similar size, the week mostly belonged to Zack Shutt, while Luke Miani and NorthridgeFix had calmer stretches too. For This Is, one episode did the heavy lifting, and it was the one with the gum.
