Coffee, knishes and an Amazon tablet with TheUnlockr

David Cogen tests the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro between East Village coffee, a Lower East Side bakery and McSorley's Old Ale House.

A kasha knish and a park bench give David Cogen somewhere to test a tablet screen in sunlight. It is a particularly TheUnlockr way to answer "Better than an iPad?": take the device out, find something to eat, and see how it fits into the day.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro review was the most-watched of his two uploads this week, reaching about 30,000 views. At Hi-Collar, David introduces its Android software and full Google Play Store access. Between stops, he tries the anti-glare Nanomatte display, magnetic pen, keyboard and desktop-style windows. He also makes a useful distinction about its AI features: on-screen intelligence is off by default and requires opting in.

The neighborhood gets almost as much attention as the hardware. Viewers share memories of visiting McSorley's decades ago, while another picks out the unfamiliar siphon-coffee method. There is a practical tablet question in the mix, too: can you change its launcher?

"Apple Watch 12 & Watch Ultra 4 Real-World Test" supplied the other outing, this time through Brooklyn, with a shipping-container DJ, a hidden jazz record store and a Japanese listening bar on the itinerary.

Across the channel, viewing is running more than half above its usual daily level, although subscribers were unchanged over the week. TheUnlockr added roughly 400,000 views, close to PC Centric's weekly gain; Retro Game Corps had a substantially busier week, while Soldier Knows Best was quieter.

The tablet is currently David's busiest upload by daily views, but his month-old ASUS ExpertBook Ultra test is close behind. That one takes the laptop through both his video work and coffee-shop business, another review with an actual working day attached.
