Austin Evans finds the Xbox Nano's niche in phone gaming
The pocket-sized controller gets his approval, but its built-in battery prompts a lively defense of replaceable AAs.

The Xbox Nano Controller is Kinda Great
Austin Evans puts the Xbox Nano in front of a standard Xbox controller, making its main selling point immediately visible. This is a controller small enough to slip into a pocket, not just squeeze into a backpack.
His Short, "The Xbox Nano Controller is Kinda Great," passed a quarter-million views in its first 11 hours, already far beyond his usual full-day audience for Shorts. The demonstration moves from pairing it with an Xbox Series X to playing on a smartphone, where Evans finds its clearest purpose.
"I actually feel like the mobile experience is probably where this is best," he says. For someone carrying a phone rather than a console, the smaller controller makes a more obvious travel companion.
The other notable change is inside: a built-in battery instead of AAs. Evans points it out, but several viewers make the case for keeping replaceable batteries, particularly when rechargeable cells wear out or a controller needs power without waiting for a charge. Others question whether the smaller size justifies the price.
At $50, Evans is persuaded. Some commenters would prefer it cheaper, while one imagines adding the Nano to the everyday pocket inventory of keys, wallet and phone.

I don’t understand why people have a problem with AA batteries. Old 8bitdo used to come with a rechargeable battery that could be replaced with a AA battery. That’s the best option. For game systems especially which are played for years past their lifetime. AAs or rechargeable AAs make more sense.
@Batfez77See it on YouTubeI like the option to use AA batteries
@MrMichaelhlSee it on YouTubeI feel like a regular sized Xbox controller isn’t too much more inconvenient to have inside a backpack
@Voodoomamajuju945See it on YouTubeHope either Microsoft or any third party will make a mobile clip accessory for this. Would love to use this for my phone
