A local resident describes helping transport injured passengers to so they can receive care, as helicopters and emergency crews work around the wreckage of two high-speed trains.

France's TF1 INFO television news service places that account alongside passenger footage and aerial images of crushed and overturned carriages. Its updated reporting, citing the authorities, puts the provisional death toll at at least 68.

The collision happened Wednesday morning near Urda, in Toledo province south of Madrid. The report's explanatory map shows a stationary train struck from behind by a train. Renfe is Spain's state-owned passenger operator; Iryo is a private high-speed operator.

Correspondent Victoria David reports from outside the restricted rescue area, where journalists are being kept at a distance while emergency operations continue. The resident's account offers a view of the help being organized beyond the railway itself: moving wounded people toward the nearby village.

The report then turns from rescue to safety, recalling the railway disaster at ten months earlier. Transport specialist Arnaud Aymé says human error is a plausible hypothesis and that every possibility should be investigated. Railway journalist Marie-Hélène Poingt raises infrastructure maintenance concerns as the segment compares Spain's network with France's. These are questions examined in the report, not an established explanation for this collision.

A surviving passenger describes the impact from behind and says the other train ended up to the left of his carriage. His account closes the report with a question about how such a failure could happen despite modern railway technology.
