A New York Times bestseller, and Taylor Tomlinson still isn't convinced
Her one upload is a thank-you short about the book, and its comment section filled with readers, library queues and people finishing dissertations.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
MY BOOK IS A NYT BESTSELLER DESPITE MY LOW SELF-ESTEEM 🥹 THANK YOU! #shorts #book #standupcomedy
One short, one bestseller. Taylor Tomlinson's only upload of the week is a thank-you for her book making The New York Times bestseller list, delivered the way she delivers most good news: with a joke about her own low self-esteem. The title says as much, and so does the premise, which is that reaching the finish line did not change the person crossing it.
That idea is the one viewers grabbed. The most liked comments come from people who say they know the feeling from their own work, including someone who has just handed in a PhD dissertation and another who writes novels for a living. Others quote her lines back, from a gag about a memoir sounding like a life lived well to a bit about being asked not to say something on television and posting it here instead. Further down, readers trade notes on the audiobook, and one says their library has a long waiting list for copies.
The short passed 290,000 views in its first day and has kept going since. Behind it, two older stand-up shorts are still doing steady work: a cousins dating bit from early summer, now past eight million views, and a month-old question about falling in love on a plane.
The whole channel is running at roughly three times its usual daily pace. Among stand-up comedians of a similar size, Ali Siddiq, Gianmarco Soresi and Matteo Lane are also having lively weeks, while Russell Peters and Troy Bond are holding close to normal. Michael Blaustein still draws the biggest daily crowd of the group, even on a lighter stretch for him.
