Welding thin metal without welding: Stick welder's secret nears seven million
A 25-day-old trick for joining thin steel without an arc is still pulling in more than 100,000 views a day, while a new square-tube bending lesson got off to a quick start.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
the secret of welders working with thin metal without welding
Stick welder keeps its name simple and its subject simpler: electric welding, mostly with stick rods, mostly for beginners. The video doing the heavy lifting right now, though, is about not welding at all.
"the secret of welders working with thin metal without welding" went up 25 days ago and is closing in on seven million views. It still brings in more than half of what the whole channel draws on a typical day. A near-twin posted two days later, "How can a welder work with thin metal without welding?", asks the same question and sits at a little over 100,000. Same idea, very different luck.
Two new uploads arrived this week. "the secret of the metal angle ruler that few people know" opened the week and settled into a slow rhythm. The newer one, "old welder's best practice bending thin square pipe ferrous metal", went up on October 7 and drew more than 11,000 views in its first 15 hours. The description pitches it as a beginner's lesson in working thin square tube with a stick welder, which fits the channel's running theme: thin metal, handled carefully.
Views held close to the channel's usual pace, and about 2,000 new subscribers came along over the week. Among the DIY and building channels around its size, only HomeTransform gathered more views, while Gavren Dochterman and Red Beard's Garage ran well below their usual.

In welding, what does the abbreviation SMAW, the formal name for stick welding, stand for?
Stick welding is formally called shielded metal arc welding because the rod's flux coating creates a gas shield that protects the molten weld.
