Jolene, sung back at Gary: Stevie Knows hands Dolly Parton to the teachers

The country parody, posted on September 28, passed 400,000 views and became the most watched of six uploads in a week built around Online Primary School.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Dolly Parton - Jolene ParodyDolly Parton - Jolene Parody

Dolly Parton's "Jolene" is a plea to another woman, and in Stevie Knows' hands it becomes a chant aimed at one troublesome pupil. "Dolly Parton - Jolene Parody" put Gary at the center of the chorus, and then it turned the joke around: by the end, the teachers are the ones singing. That switch is what the comment section keeps coming back to, along with the little "yeah?" Gary answers after every round of his own name, and the idea that he must secretly be pleased to have Miss Smith singing at him. Stevie himself is asking viewers which song he should parody next, and plenty of them are answering.

The rest of the week stayed in the classroom. Episode 7 of Online Primary School, the one where the teacher "didn't stand a chance against Gary," had the strongest first day of the new uploads after the parody. A short asking which student had the best song kept the music theme going, and a football short went up beside them. On Sunday, Stevie went live for a catch-up on the school series, characters, parody songs and what comes next.

Even so, the video doing the most work is three weeks old: "Online Primary School: Episode 2" has climbed past 1.4 million views and still draws more each day than anything new on the channel. Overall the week was slower than his usual pace, with a little under three and a half million views and a few thousand new subscribers.

Among comedy sketch channels of a similar size, Stevie sits in the middle for views this week. Biggy Bailey had the biggest week by far, 2 Big Lugs ran well above its own normal, and Brian Moller's channel was one of the quieter ones.
